PHYSICAL FEATURES
This state is land of lush green forests, deep river valleys, plateaus and mountainous with the Himalayan ranges lying along the northern borders crisscrossed with north-south running ranges. These divide the state into five river valleys: the Kameng, the Subansiri, the Siang, the Lohit and the Tirap. A series of foothills lie in the southernmost part of the state, rising from the Assam plains to touch altitudes of 300 to 1000 metres.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The erstwhile North-East Frontier Agency its terrain consists of submontane and mountainous ranges, sloping down to the plains of Assam, divided into valleys by the rivers Kameng, Subansiri, Siang, Lohit and Tirap.
POLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS:
Prior to 1962 the area was known as the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA), constitutionally a part of Assam.
State was administered by the Ministry of External Affairs until 1965 and subsequently by the Ministry of Home Affairs, through the Governor of Assam.
1972 - it was constituted as a Union Territory and renamed Arunachal Pradesh
20 February 1987- became the 24th state of the Indian Union.

PHYSICAL FEATURES
Uttarakhand is located in the foothills of the Himalayas. The region is mostly mountainous with a major portion covered with forests. Based on topographic characteristics, specific availability of land resources for urban development and economic mobility, Uttarakhand can be segregated into three broad categories, 1. The high mountain region (these would include significant portions of Uttarkashi, Champawat, Pithoragarh, Chamoli and Rudra-prayag districts), 2. The mid-mountain region (major parts of Pauri Garhwal, Tehri, Almora, Bageshwar districts). 3. The Doon, Terai region and Hardwar (lower foothills and plains of Dehradun, Nainital, Udhamsingh Nagar and Hardwar districts). The significant peaks of the Great Himalayan range in the state are Nanda Devi, Panchachuli, Kedarnath, Chaukhamba, Badrinath, Trishul, Bandarpunch and Kamet. Pindari, Gangotri, Milam and Khatling are the important glaciers.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Uttarakhand has been mentioned in the ancient Hindu scriptures as Kedarkhand, Manaskhand and Himavant. The Kushanas, Kunindas, Kanishka, Samudra Gupta, the Pauravas, Katuris, Palas, the Chandras and Pawaras and the British have ruled it in turns. It is often called the Land of the Gods (Dev Bhoomi) because of its various holy places and abundant shrines. The hilly regions of Uttarakhand offer unspoilt landscapes to the tourist-pilgrim.

PHYSICAL FEATURES
Manipur can be divided into two distinct physical regionsthe outlying area of rugged hills and narrow valleys, and the inner area of flat plains. The Loktak Lake is an important geographic feature of the central plain area. The total area occupied by all the lakes is about 600 sq. km. The highest point of the state is the Iso Peak near Mao (2,994m).
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Manipur has a long and glorious history from beginning of the Christian era. The recorded history of kingship started from 22 AD, which marked the coronation of Pakhangba. After Pakhangba, a series of kings ruled over the kingdom of Manipur. The independence and sovereignty of Manipur remained uninterrupted until the Burmese invaded and occupied it for seven years in the first quarter of the 19th century ( 1819-25). Then came British Paramountcy in 1891. In 1949 Manipur became a Union territory administered by a chief commissioner and an elected territorial council.
