Former
judge of the Rajasthan High Court Justice Sajjan Singh Kothari was
today sworn in as Lokayukta. Governor Margaret Alva administered him
oath of office in the presence of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Chief
Justice Amitava Roy, members of council of ministers, BJP State
President Vasundhara Raje and senior officers were present during the
ceremony at Raj Bhawan. The post had been lying vacant since May last
year after the retirement of G L Gupta. Kothari's selection was made by a
panel that included the Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition and the
Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court.
Justice
Kothari was born on 10th October, 1950 in Ajmer. He completed his
graduation from Government College, Ajmer in the year 1970 and did
L.L.B. in 1973 from the same college. He worked as District &
Sessions Judge in Tonk, Kota and Rajsamand districts between 2000 to
2008. Justice Kothari joined as Principal Secretary (Law), Govt. of
Rajasthan on 12 May, 2008 and worked on this post till 23 May, 2010. He
was elevated as Additional Judge, Rajasthan High Court on 24 May, 2010.
On September 9, 2011 he became Permanent Judge in Rajasthan High Court
and retired on October 9, 2012
